SUMMARY:Merritt Dialogues: On Iran w/Behrooz Ghamari & Fatemeh Jamalpour
DESCRIPTION:The Bay Area Book Festival presents the Merritt Dialogues \nON IRAN: Behrooz Ghamari & Fatemeh Jamalpour \nModerated by Jeff Chang \n\nIn the shadow of the escalating US‑Israel war on Iran\, historian Behrooz Ghamari and feminist journalist Fatemeh Jamalpour come together for a rare\, intimate dialogue on Iran\, dissent\, and the futures imagined by those forced to live and write between worlds. Guided by cultural critic Jeff Chang\, they’ll explore how revolutions are remembered\, how regimes attempt to silence witnesses\, and how stories cross borders even when bodies cannot. \nBoth in-person and virtual tickets are available for this hybrid event. Come engage in one of the most urgent conversations of our time. Moderated in person by Jeff Chang\, author of Water Mirror Echo and host of Notes from the Edge on KALW. \nTickets are available to join in-person or virtual. Guests Behrooz Ghamari and Fatemeh Jamalpour will be joining virtually. The in-person event features the panel discussion on the New Parkway’s screen\, a public conversation following the panel discussion\, and book sales. \n\nPurchase tickets now through Eventbrite (virtual only) or the New Parkway (in-person only) \n  \n\nSeries description: The quarterly Merritt Dialogues\, launched in Uptown Oakland in 2025\, invites us into generative conversation—where two thinkers\, whose viewpoints may align or diverge\, engage in dialogue that engenders critical thinking and deepens understanding of complex issues. Our aim is not to sway but to illuminate\, cultivating nuance and richer perspective. Rather than trickle up or down\, insights move in and out\, sending reverberations through our myceliadic communities\, weaving empathy and complexity into our collective consciousness. Participants will leave not only transformed as individuals\, but also as threads in a larger societal stitching\, our communal weave ever more intricate and alive.
